Agenda Item
4 26-5504 *Expressing support for the citizens of Cuba and their struggle for freedom, democracy, and basic human rights; Calling upon the government of Cuba to cease repression, release all political prisoners, and respect the fundamental right of all Cuban people; Calling upon the United States government to continue its support for Cuban aspirations for freedom and democracy; Directing the City Clerk to transmit copies to the President and concerned elected officials.
I support the resolution expressing solidarity with the Cuban people and their pursuit of freedom and basic human rights. Communism is a failure. Key West’s ONE HUMAN FAMILY motto should stand with those living under 67 years of political repression and denied fundamental liberties. Our city shares deep historic ties with Cuba, shaped by generations of Cuban immigrants, workers, and leaders who helped build Key West. Supporting this resolution honors that shared heritage and affirms the universal values of human dignity, freedom, and self-determination. Viva Cuba Libre!
Key West's deep historical and cultural ties to Cuba make this resolution both fitting and overdue, and the Commission is right to stand publicly with the Cuban people in their struggle for basic human rights and self-determination.
