40 26-5264 Approving and authorizing the Interlocal Agreement between the City of Key West and Monroe County for the conveyance of real property known as Higgs Beach located at 1040 Atlantic Boulevard, Key West, FL, from Monroe County to the City of Key West; Approving the acceptance of said property by Quit Claim Deed to be executed by the Mayor of the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County; Authorizing the Mayor to execute the Interlocal Agreement and any necessary documents, upon review and consent of the City Attorney.
After reviewing the attachments it is still unclear why this provides any benefit to The City and instead, brings great risk. Residents and visitors have full use of the park and beach today with The County providing much of the cost. Even though the study shows a modest profit over 5 years to The City, what if things change? What of there is extensive damage from a storm? What if the TDC funding model changes? Why would The city take on the risk and responsibility for an asset that we already have full use and enjoyment of? I hope any Commissioner in support if this will be very specific about the added benefit versus the additional risk because I certainly can not see it. Thank you.
