Applicant is requesting Tree Commission approval to remove (2) Strangler Fig trees.
I oppose the removal of these two trees for the reasons outlined in Mary Ann Matter’s letter attached dated November 10, 2025 and Karen Siegel’s comments below.
I am opposed to removing these trees without input from true experts in this area. This is a special case as it involves historic graves and ancient trees. Once these trees are gone they can never be replaced. In addition, it’s disturbing that this appears to be done under cloak of darkness. Why wasn’t this published earlier so that residents can be involved in this decision? Notice on Friday for a Monday meeting is ludicrous. Postpone this decision, get expert advice from the state, and get residents involved. The cemetery is an important part of our community. It’s the least you can do.
