I would like you to consider the feelings of the parishioners who have grown up with St. Mary's and want to save as much of the original church as possible. The windows are historic and should be saved.

    To whom it may concern,
As a parishioner of St. Mary's Basilica at 1010 Windsor Lane, I oppose the removal of the colored glass windows as they are a unique reflection our beautiful Florida Keys. The church has been a part of our sacraments and celebrations for generations. Please uphold the historic integrity of our beautiful church.

I oppose the replacement of the historic colored glass windows in St Mary's Basilica. I have been a parishioner at St Mary's for many years and I am disappointed that the parishioners have had no say in the planned renovations to our historic church. Please don't let them change the windows. Once those pieces of history are ripped out, they're gone forever. Andrea Monson

This beautiful, historic island church needs no improvement. Please leave the amber glass in place, there is absolutely no need to change it out.

The basilica is a simple elegant island church that already has the theme of “light, bright and airy”. Depending on the how the doors are positioned or the weather, the way the light comes into the basilica through the colored glass creates various tones of light throughout the day. In public images and video, you can see how bright and airy the basilica is as soon as you enter proving there is no need to change the glass. It’s also important to preserve the glass in its intended place as it has a higher chance of being lost to time if removed.

Being Key West born and parishioners since youth, we oppose the removal of any of the colored glass – Frances, John, & Kristin O’Neill.
