11 22-3197 *Approving the purchase and installation of Astroturf Artificial Turf at Clayton Sterling Complex by Burke Construction, in an amount not to exceed $2,300,000.00, pursuant to Section 2-797(4)(b) of the Code of Ordinances, Best Interests of the City; Authorizing any necessary budget adjustments; Authorizing the City Manager to execute necessary documents upon advice and consent of the City Attorney.
Excellent project! Result in substantial dollar savings in Parks and Recreation budget in the long-term in both employee salaries/benefit costs and utilities. Instead of redirecting these budget savings to other general fund uses, would suggest that you consider reinvesting these savings into maintenance/improvements City's Parks and Recreation facilities, first step towards making City's Parks and Recreation facilities world class. You might also consider consulting with finance and establishing a separate fund supporting all Park and Recreation facilities/activities, over time the goal could be for City Parks and Recreation Department to work toward a self funding and sustaining model.
