8 21-6659 *Approving the attached "Plans Review and Inspection Services Agreement" between the City and All Aspects Inspection Services, LLC for building permit plans review and inspection services; Approving any necessary budget transfers or adjustments.
This agreement seems to be a good short-term solution to resolve a crisis (backlog in basic time sensitive public services). It is a recurring symptom of a serious long-term issue for the City, a failure to maintain attractive employment opportunities with compensation that is competitive. This same issue, lack of competitive pay, affects the basic operations in many other departments critical to the City's success. Examples include the ability to attract and retain Planning professionals, bus drivers, and basic maintenance workers. Perhaps, this long-term challenge can be addressed in the strategic planning process with a compensation overhaul?
